How Do You Start Your Day?

How does your daily routine start? What are the things you do when you get up? I found myself doing pretty much the same routine every morning lately. There are a few things I can’t start the day without. As a blogger who has a full time job, I try to be as efficient as possible.

My day starts with a breakfast (doh!), nice cup of tea and some bread with Nutella. I eat Nutella every morning. It’s the only thing I can eat in the morning. Yes, I may be crazy.

First thing I do after I power up my computer is check email. Actually I kind of scan through the emails to see what’s been going on while I was a sleep, to see if there’s anything urgent. I don’t reply them yet, I do that later throughout the day.

After that I usually scan my Twitter account for DMs, @mentions and trending topics. Trending topics are pretty cool source for some news by the way.

When I’m done with that, it’s time to check blog stats. I don’t spend too much time on that, just a quick glance to see what kind of traffic there was on my blog. If there’s a spike, that’s a good indicator that I wrote a good blog post and vise versa. Gives me some thinking for the day and how to improve what I do to get more traffic.

I also check Google reader to see what’s been going on on my favorite blogs. In the morning I usually only scan the headlines.

This is pretty much it. All that takes me about 15-20 minutes. And when I’m done checking out all these things, I most likely end up with a few ideas for next blog post and I brainstorm during the day. After that the day starts with going to work and all the usual crap, but I’ll leave that for another post, maybe.

Friday Mashup… on Sunday: Can I Make Up with Some Link Love and a Puppy?

Hello! I’ve been rather busy the last few days, didn’t even have time to make a regular blog post. Oh yea, and I went skiing too, which was totally awesome, by the way. Well I missed the Friday, so let’s enter the time machine and go back, or pretend it’s Friday if you don’t own one.

What I liked this week

OK, I can’t say I really like Google Buzz, but all the buzz is about Google Buzz lately and Ruhani Rabin gives us Every Tip You Ever Need to Know About Google Buzz. And we’re not done with Google Buzz yet, Mani Karthik has more on Google Buzz – 6 Ways to integrate & make the most of Google Buzz. And while we’re at it, here are some really cool Google Buzz Share Buttons by Cheth. But does Google Buzz really deserve all the buzz? Apparently 50% Twitter Users Dislike Google Buzz, says Sarah Chong. Enough about the Buzz.

Let’s get to blogging now. Is your blog DoFollow? I found an interesting article about DoFollow blogs and comments written by Sarge from Beginner blogger. He’s wondering if DoFollow blogs create dishonesty? JohnLuffa wrote a short but important article about 4 Things To Check Before Hitting The Publish Button. Nikon D3000 Short Review

This is just a short review of my new camera, or should I call it first impressions. Anyway, I bought a Nikon D3000 just a couple of days ago, so I can’t really make a full review yet. Especially because this is my first DLSR camera and I’m still getting used to it. But I already love it. I will not bother you with all its technical details, you can see specs of Nikon D3000 on Nikon’s website.

This “review” is made from an amateur’s point of view.

Feel and Look

Compared to my point and shoots that I’ve owned before this one really gives a professional feel and look. It’s not too big tho’. Actually, it’s almost too small for my hand. I’m almost 2 meters tall and my hands are a bit bigger than average I would imagine. So when I hold the camera I basically only have 3 fingers actually holding it, and it becomes uncomfortable after a while. Build quality feels nice. Material is some sort of hard plastic, but seems very strong and solid. Overall the feel and look is pretty good.

Image Quality

Photos are much better than by any compact I used before, obviously since it’s a DSLR with a much bigger sensor. I’ve read reviews by pro photographers and some were not satisfied with the picture quality. Well, maybe if you compare it to more expensive DSLRs that is true, but for someone like me who is used to normal point and shoots the image quality is excellent.

Ease of Use

The menus on the camera are really newb friendly. Which is also one of the reasons why I bought it in the first place. Camera has a Guide Mode, which lets you select what type of photos you’d like to shoot and it adjusts all settings for you. In addition to that, you can always press the question mark button in menus in other modes and you will get an explanation of what each feature does. Excellent for a beginner!

This were the first impressions. I’m happy that I bought Nikon D3000, I don’t regret buying it at all. I will probably make a bit more detailed review when I get more used to it and learn to actually use it better. Too bad the weather right now sucks and I can only do some indoor shots. But worry not, I will post photos soon.
