Why Did You Start Blogging?

February 23, 2010 in Blogging | View Comments

I’m on short with time today, so instead of making a long blog post, I’ll ask you a question. But let me first answer it myself.

Why did I start blogging? My very first blog (which does not exist anymore) was about making money, because I wanted to make money online. That was over 3 years ago. I thought it’d be as easy as putting some ads on the sidebar. Pathetic, I know. I learned the truth quickly and lost interest soon.

I started this blog, because I like to share my thoughts with people that have same interests and I like to write. And making a little money while doing this is nice too, even tho’ this is not primary goal of this blog.

Why did you start blogging? I’d be interested to hear your initial motivation to start a blog.

  • I'm a self proclaimed writer. About five years ago I came up with, what I consider, a brilliant idea for a novel. I was fooling around one evening with my son about how our lives could change if I married a "certain" man. The more I went on with this story, the funnier and interesting it became. Days later when my son and I were still laughing at this made up scenario, I thought I should put the story on paper.

Did I say five years ago? Well, a friend encouarged me a couple of years ago to start blogging as a way to get the juices flowing. I really don't know what her reasoning was but I think she grew weary of hearing about this "one day" novel. I didn't follow her advice and then last year, February 2009, I heard the story of the Chris Brown and then, girlfriend's brawl the night of the Grammy's. I was sick of hearing what everyone had to say! I ran to my computer and vented. I think my next post was written in July 2009, I haven't stopped since.

    Hope this helps.
  • I starteed blogging on accident, I have been doing business online for over 10 years and touched on everything from free high traffic sites doing 500k unique per day to affiliate programs, etc.

When I installed the blog platform on my site and replaced my basic html site it was only to make my updates easier to do. Adding pictures, things like that. Somehow that turned in to me offering business tips, blogging tips or whatever else from what I have learned over the past 10+ years.

    Now I am an addict.
  • Well, I'm glad you had that accident. :P
  • I needed the money :P
Just kidding, I started because I saw some pretty crappy blogs that made money and have social influence and I said to myself "Hey, I can do this at least twice as better, let's give it a shot!" My blog actually came as an extension of my IT and multimedia tutorial website.
20,000 people a day start blogs? That is a huge number but I suppose a lot of those people just open a free blog at wordpress write a few posts and lose interest or something like that. Probably less than half of those 20k actually live more than a few months.
  • Yea probably a small percent of those 20.000 actually stay active.
  • To be honest, I started blogging to track my journey as an internet entrepreneur. That was about 3 years ago now and that blog is gone, and it is only now that I am actually starting to make some money online.
  • That sounds like me. :)
  • I started blogging as a form of personal therapy. :) It helps me process things that are going on in my life and I love getting feedback from people. I like to blog about things that are important to me (and I hope for others too). When I first started, I never realized that I would continue at it as long as I have. :) I truly love blogging and I hope to continue to do it for a long time to come!
  • Very interesting reason to start blogging. Good that not everyone is in just for the money.
