Systemize Your Time for Blogging

January 31, 2010 in Blogging | View Comments

My usual day currently consists of the typical 8-5 job, which gives me little time to spend with friends and family. My online life is becoming more time demanding and eats into my family time, but I see it as a means to break free from my work life. Since my online activities are requiring more time, I’ve had to get better organized about how I do things.

In this post I’ll point out a few tips on time management for bloggers. In my previous post, which I wrote a few weeks back,  I spoke about finding time for blog writing. So, this post would be a follow up. There are just a few things I’d like to add.

Set Schedule for Blogging

Each person has a best time. You can discover yours by monitoring your productivity over a period of time. Then you need to manage your schedule to keep your best time free for your most important work.

Create weekly schedule and set blogging activities for each day. For instance, I have set Friday to be my roundup day, Saturday is generally free and so on, just to give you an idea.

Then set a daily schedule for blog writing, commenting, moderating and other activities. One hour is enough time to write new content, moderate comments and reply to comments. Any time left over within the hour is spent visiting other blogs, leaving comments and generally promoting the blog.

Having a schedule keeps me focused and it also prevents me from forgetting or neglecting certain activities. I must say that there’s a sense of relief in hot having to think about every activity every day.

  • Thanks for comments all. Sometimes it is impossible to follow a schedule, indeed. Last two days, for instance, I haven't had time to do anything by schedule. I should have mention in the post that you don't always have to stick to the schedule, but having a general plan still helps. As wachingya said, planning is essential.
  • I was having 9-6 day job too when I started blogging. Adhering to schedule was very tough but planning is essential. Can't say I'm fully following what has been planned a day before, but definitely trying to. I really hope you manage to work out a system that works for you, to work smart in limited timing. Best wishes!

  • We should all follow y our example instead of spending too much time on blogging or worse... on NOT blogging because we failed to plan.
    Thanks for this post
  • I lie to myself over and over again by promising to do exactly what you are saying. I should say, I've lied (past tense)....this is ridiculous....the time I just go from here to there without getting anything accomplished. I'm like the housewife that did a "hundred things today" and not one of them are finished.

I have a blog notebook where I jot my ideas...it's empty. I specifically bought a planner (the old fashioned kind with pages and dates) and it's just as new as it was the day I got it. Nope, not any more....that's behind me. I'm getting it together. Thanks for the encouragement!
  • My lifestyle really doesn't allow me to set timre aside for blogging, I just need to do it as soon as I have a chance. If that means writing 25 posts in one shot then so be it.

Schedules have never been my strong point. I usually just stick with them for a day or two then go back to no schedule. However, they really do work and it something that I need to commit to in this coming year.
