When optimizing blogs or websites for search engines, people often forget the importance of optimizing images. Search engines give the user the ability to search images. According to Ask.com 25% of all queries are made for images. With good image optimization, your images will show up on image searches and will bring in additional traffic to your blog or website. And who doesn’t want more traffic to their blog? In this post i will explain you how to easily optimize your images for better SEO.
How to optimize images?
There are two very easy steps to follow. File names and Alt tags. If your image’s file name is something like DSCN0054.jpg, it probably will not show up on search results, because search engines can’t see what’s on the picture, but they can read file names. So name your images to something relevant to your page content, such as “seo-for-images.jpg”. The alt tag attribute allows you to create an “alternate text” that appears when a user holds their mouse over the image. This can be used to describe images. It will make images rank better on search results as well.
If you don’t know how to write an Alt tag to your image, it looks like this:
<img src=”http://hegeeks.com/images/seo-for-images.jpg” alt=“put here your keywords” width=”130″ height=”100″/>
Just don’t use too many keywords in Alt tags, especially ones that don’t relate to the content of your post, because search engines could think of it as spam.
